Leather School Facilities

We offer courses that are steeped in age-old practices within our modern facilities. Leather School operates from the first floor of the Tanner Bates Traditional English Leather Making Studio.

Our connection to the studio means that we are amongst the best resourced centres for learning leather working skills in the country. Our tutors are drawn from professionals working for Tanner Bates, along with highly skilled practitioners in different specialisms.

Courses and Booking

Leather School courses start with relatively straight forward short classes and build up to the essential skills to get you established. Beyond this we are committed to supporting our students and experienced leather workers with advanced skills and supportive Makers’ Days.

To book onto Leather School courses use the calendar on the menu bar. Choose the course and date you want, then select ‘Tickets’ to book the course.

Welcome to Leather School

Our aim is inspire participants to get hands-on with leather and to enable them to learn skills that they will continue to use in creating leatherwork, whether it be for the pleasure of learning a craft or in their professional lives. Over the years we have successfully taught people of all ages and experience, from those who want to dip their toes in on an introductory class, to others who want to learn and develop ways of working with leather that will last a lifetime.

It is the best course I have ever been on…

Fantastic course, learnt loads it is the best course I have ever been on, John and Will were excellent instructors very patient and informative, came home with a lovely belt and bag made completely from scratch by myself. I feel confident to carry on with this skill at home. I would definitely recommend this course to others.

….we’ve done a range of different skills courses because we’re both a bit crafty, and we’re in agreement that this was the best thing that we’ve ever done.
